Pop star Rihanna is moving to the big screen after signing up for her first major film.

The Umbrella singer has landed the female lead in the upcoming action blockbuster Battleship.

It will be her big screen debut, having previously acted on straight-to-DVD sequel Bring It On: All or Nothing as well as a sketch on US cult TV comedy show Saturday Night Live.

Based on the classic naval combat game, Battleship is set to be one of the biggest films of 2012.
